The Potchefstroom Campus’s women’s side has dominated the national hockey scene, winning the USSA championships in 2011 and 2012. Two players from the university represented South Africa at the Olympic Games in 2012 and four current u-21 players hail from the Potchefstroom Campus. About 95% of the provincial teams are made up from NWU players and more than 1 000 children annually participate in university’s hockey clinics. Since 1997, when the hockey academy was started, 13 senior and 25 u-21 players have represented South Africa, as well as four men’s player in the respective junior and senior sides. The Astro Turf fields of the Potchefstroom campus have accommodated numerous training camps and international games. Visitors include Australia, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Poland and Netherland, to name a few.
